Constellation Brands reported better-than-expected quarterly earnings Thursday, driven by strength in its beer business that more than offset continued weakness in wines and spirits. Management's upbeat forecast for fiscal year 2025 should send the stock to new all-time highs. Constellation Brands Why we own it : We like Constellation Brands for its beer franchise, which includes popular Mexican brands Modelo, Corona and Pacifico. More importantly, the sales gains in the beer business are almost entirely driven by volume gains, not higher prices. Management cited Circana channel data as evidence that its beer business outperformed the total U.S. beer category and remained the top dollar sales share gainer.

To the Editor:Re “Trump Must Pay $355 Million Fine in New York Case” (front page, Feb. 17):It is clear that Donald Trump is an inveterate scofflaw and will continue to be; he shows no evidence of remorse. As he has told us in many ways, he will continue this behavior regardless of whether he returns to political power. But too many people are on to his behavior; he will spend the rest of his life being brought to justice for his continuing peccadilloes. CNN —Jim McGreevey, the former New Jersey governor who publicly acknowledged he was gay and admitted to an affair before stepping down nearly 20 years ago, announced Thursday he will campaign for mayor of Jersey City in 2025. But I also think, God willing, that I can give something back,” McGreevey said Thursday at an event kicking off his campaign. McGreevey, a 66-year-old Democrat, was elected in 2001 as New Jersey governor. In a campaign video, McGreevey, who served as mayor of Woodbridge Township before becoming governor, asked people to give him a second chance. And that’s what, God willing, this campaign is all about, is a new opportunity for Jersey City,” he said in the video.

3 seeds, Ram and Salisbury also won the 2020 Australian Open. But this title may have been just as unexpected after they rebounded from a difficult year to win the final major of the circuit. They had won only one previous tournament this year, the Lyon Open in France in May, and were 4-6 in their last 10 matches coming into the U.S. Open. But none of those duos were able to string together three straight at the U.S. Open, the last major of the calendar year. In the men’s singles, three Americans made it to the final eight, and Ben Shelton reached a semifinal, where he lost to No.

"Store Closing" signs at a Buy Buy Baby store in the Brooklyn borough of New York, on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023. The New Jersey baby retailer that bought Buy Buy Baby's intellectual property from its bankrupt parent company Bed Bath and Beyond also snatched up 11 of its leases and is well-positioned to reopen stores, court records show. However, Dream on Me could use the Buy Buy Baby IP assets it already obtained – plus the leases – to reopen the beloved chain. The leases Dream on Me won at auction, which are considered to be in prime real estate locations, are primarily dotted across the Northeast. Dream on Me, founded in 1988, has at least six brands under its portfolio, including Evolur Baby, Sweetpea Baby and Slumber Baby.

The exodus of older workers has no equivalent in other advanced economies. "The best part of 90% of people who say they are early retired ... say that they will probably or definitely never work again." Based on data from before the pandemic, Britain's Resolution Foundation found the richest fifth of 50-59 year olds were 10 times likelier to retire early than the bottom fifth. Other companies say they value older workers for their experience. "Older workers are the ones that have got the skills - we don't find young people with the skills that we need.
WASHINGTON, March 8 (Reuters) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Wednesday it is opening a preliminary investigation into 120,000 2023 Tesla Model Y vehicles after two reports of steering wheels falling off while driving. The U.S. auto safety regulator said the steering wheels in both vehicles, which had a low mileage, completely detached. The vehicles were delivered to owners missing the retaining bolt that attaches the steering wheel to the steering column. NHTSA said "both vehicles received an end of line repair requiring removal and re-installation of the steering wheel." Sudden separation occurred when the force exerted on the steering wheel overcame the resistance of the friction fit while the vehicles were in motion."

Photographer: Liesa Johannssen/Bloomberg via Getty ImagesThe National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into Tesla after it received two complaints that steering wheels detached in 2023 Model Y vehicles while people were driving. "Both vehicles were delivered to the owners missing the retaining bolt which attaches the steering wheel to the steering column," the NHTSA said. He later said the Tesla dealership called him and apologized, and the driver shared a photo of a replacement Model Y that he received on Feb. 23. The investigation into Tesla is a first step before the NHTSA could demand a vehicle recall.
The NHTSA is investigating two reports of the steering wheel on the 2023 Model Y falling off. In January, a Tesla owner said his steering wheel fell off when he was driving on the highway. The NHTSA says the inquiry covers over 120,000 Model Y vehicles from the model year 2023. The agency said it launched the probe after it was made aware of two reports of the steering wheel on the vehicle falling off while drivers were on the road. In both cases, the agency said the cars had low mileage and were missing a bolt that attaches the steering wheel to the steering column.

U.S. auto safety regulators have opened an investigation into Tesla 's Model Y SUV after getting two complaints that the steering wheels can come off while being driven. A friction fit held the steering wheels on, but they separated when force was exerted while the SUVs were being driven. The owner wrote that there were no cars behind him, and he was able to pull toward the road divider. The complaint has a link to a Twitter posting from the owner that included a video of the detached steering wheel and pictures of the white Tesla being towed. The U.S. Justice Department also has asked Tesla for documents from Tesla about "Full Self-Driving" and Autopilot.

Prerak Patel said his Tesla steering wheel fell of while he was driving down a New Jersey highway. The driver said he'd received the Model Y just five days prior to the incident. Pictures of the steering wheel appear to show the wheel entirely detached from the steering column, only hanging on by exposed wires. He'd always wanted to buy a Tesla, he said, and saw an opportunity when the company lowered its prices for its Model Y and Model 3 on January 13. In 2020, Tesla driver Jason Tuatara posted photos of a Model 3 steering wheel that had fallen off.

MELBOURNE, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Nine-times Wimbledon men's doubles champion Todd Woodbridge said on Thursday it was "heartbreaking" to hear the All England Club had made the decision to cut the event to best-of-three sets rather than five from this year. "Five sets lets the best team win generally in that situation." Woodbridge won six Wimbledon men's doubles titles with compatriot Mark Woodforde in the duo known as the "Woodies" before teaming up with Swede Bjorkman for another three. American Mike Bryan, who with sibling Bob formed the most successful professional doubles team of all time, also bemoaned the decision. The 2022 Wimbledon men's doubles final took more than four hours to complete with Australian duo Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell beating Croatians Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic over five sets.

One of this year's most competitive House races is in Virginia's 7th district, just southwest of DC. Some GOP voters insisted Trump won the 2020 election, while Democrats said they want younger leaders. Martin Cevala, a construction superintendent, thinks Trump won the 2020 election. Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger told Insider she sought out GOP Rep. Liz Cheney's endorsement. Spanberger faces a tight race against Yesli Vega, who has sympathized with January 6 rioters. "People are enthusiastic about it," Spanberger said of the high-profile endorsement in a phone interview with Insider on Saturday. In her statement announcing the Spanberger endorsement, Cheney said Vega was "promoting conspiracy theories, denying election outcomes she disagrees with, and defending the indefensible." "I have spent almost my entire adult life in service to this nation," Spanberger told the crowd of volunteers.
WOODBRIDGE, Va.—In the final days of the midterm campaign with a trio of Democratic House seats in play, Virginia Republicans are embracing an approach that helped Glenn Youngkin capture the governor’s mansion: making the case that they listen to parents. In a recent television ad, Republican Yesli Vega stands before a classroom and says she will “never co-parent with the federal government.” She references Mr. Youngkin’s upset victory last year, in which the Republican won over independents and some Democrats in a blue-leaning state that backed President Biden by 10 percentage points in the 2020 election.

Students have begun to walk out of Northern Virginia schools in protest of Gov. "When Barbara Johns walked out, people told her she should have stayed put too," Virginia state Del.
A high school football player in New Jersey has died nearly two weeks after he was seriously injured during a football game earlier this month, officials said. Xavier McClain, 16, succumbed to injuries sustained during a Sept. 9 game between his school, Linden High School and the nearby Woodbridge High School, Derek Armstead, the mayor of Linden, a city just 13 miles southwest of Manhattan, said Wednesday. A Twitter account identifying itself as the official page for Linden High School football shared a tribute to McClain on Thursday, with the words "Rest In Peace Xavier McClain." Armstead said the Linden community would do whatever it could to support McClain's family in the wake of the tragedy. Armstead and the Linden High School did not immediately respond to overnight requests for comment.
